Recitals
I am an experienced bass continuo player on the viola da gamba and also am in demand as obbligato soloist in Bach's St. John and St Matthew Passions, Cantata 106, and the Sixth Brandenburg Concerto.
I am also available for solo recitals covering a wide variety of viol music: Diego Ortiz, English divisions, lyra viol, Marin Marais, Telemann and Bach.
I give illustrated talks on topics including dances and costume through the ages and the history of the viol. A recent appearance was at the Isle of Man Early Music Festival.
I work with my husband Philip Gruar playing for Elizabethan evenings, and we can provide medieval and renaissance music for functions.
Philip and I are also involved with music for theatre productions. In 2001 we played to great acclaim in The Rivals at The Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal, and in Measure for Measure at Lancaster Castle - produced by Demi-Paradise. Following the success of Measure for Measure we were asked to provide music for Blood Red Roses, a history of Lancaster Castle for the Coronation anniversary year, and in March 2004 we worked with Demi-Paradise on another highly-acclaimed Shakespeare production in the castle - All's Well that Ends Well.
Here are some pictures from The Dance of God, one of our most successful productions, devised together with the harpsichordist Ann Bond to mark the 250th anniversary of the death of J.S.Bach.
