Tudor workshops in schools

My Tudor Music and Dance workshops offer primary school children a real insight into the instruments, clothes, dancing and daily life of the Tudors. Devised with the National Curriculum in mind, they give school projects an extra dimension that has been welcomed by teachers across the North West - many incorporating the children's writings about my sessions into their Literacy Hour work.

In a typical session:

I demonstrate and discuss with the children my Renaissance-style recorders, viols, lute, pipe and tabor.

I teach all the children an easy song, perhaps accompanied by recorders or classroom percussion instruments.

Children who play the recorder or any other instrument have a chance to perform with me. (Music can be sent in advance.)

I dress up in Elizabethan costume talking about materials, colours, and styles as I do it.

Finally, I teach simple Tudor dances. In large schools with several classes in a year the dance sessions continue throughout the day with all classes coming together at the end to demonstrate the dances they have learned.
